A4A is the Signature Fundraising Event of the Autism Strong Foundation. All proceeds go to support the mission of ASF, where funds raised remain local, supporting Charlotte-area families and children on the Autism Spectrum. (www.autismstrong.org)

Autism impacts 1 in every 59 children in the United States and is steadily on the rise in the last 20 years.  It is unsure what causes Autism and unfortunately there is no cure.  Not being able to communicate verbally, motor skills and lack of social interaction with others are just some of the obstacles that these children face every day.  Landon Thoms (son of Rudy & Becky Thoms, current members of S3) was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 18 months.  He is now 9 years old and still considered severely Autistic on the spectrum.  Landon is unlike most 9 year old children.  He does not have friends, he does not play with others and he does not know how to speak & communicate. 1:1 Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is the only form of treatment for Landon that has shown positive results.  On top of specialized schooling, Landon spends 25 hours/week in ABA therapy.  There are no pharmaceutical drugs that exist to help Landon, no medical devices, only hope and faith and his wonderful ABA therapists.  Even with all these challenges, Landon lives his life as a happy boy.  He loves his iPad, his electronic toys and smiles ear to ear when you sing to him.  Although he can't tell you how he feels, you can see it in his face when he smiles and laughs.
